Northern Ireland has a distinctive denominational landscape. The largest Protestant tradition is the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) with around 530 congregations. The Church of Ireland (Anglican, in communion with the Anglican Communion) has around 460 churches across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland — roughly 270 in NI. The Roman Catholic Church operates through six NI-relevant dioceses (Armagh, Down and Connor, Derry, Clogher, Dromore, Kilmore) with around 380 NI parishes. The Methodist Church in Ireland operates 200+ congregations.
Smaller traditions include: Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland, Baptist Union of Ireland, Congregational Union of Ireland, and various Pentecostal and independent evangelical churches.
Church of Ireland — faculty jurisdiction
The Church of Ireland (which spans both Northern Ireland and the Republic) operates its own faculty system under the Constitution of the Church of Ireland. Each of the 12 Church of Ireland dioceses has its own DAC equivalent and Diocesan Council. The substantive process — Statement of Significance, Statement of Needs, DAC consultation — is broadly similar to the English CofE but with Irish constitutional grounding. NI-only Church of Ireland dioceses: Armagh, Clogher, Connor, Derry and Raphoe, Down and Dromore, Kilmore Elphin and Ardagh.
Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI)
The PCI is the largest Northern Ireland Protestant denomination. Operates Presbyterian governance: kirk session at the congregation level, presbytery covering ~30-50 congregations, and the PCI General Assembly. Capital works follow congregation trustees + presbytery approval + PCI Property Committee for substantial works. No faculty equivalent.
Roman Catholic NI dioceses
The Catholic Church in NI operates through six dioceses: Armagh (incl. the primatial see), Down and Connor, Derry, Clogher, Dromore, Kilmore. Standard Catholic governance — parish priest, diocesan finance committee, bishop's office for major capital works.
Listed buildings — Historic Environment Division NI
NI listed buildings use Grade A, B+, B1, B2 (different from English Grade I/II*/II or Scottish Cat A/B/C). The Historic Environment Division (HED) of the Department for Communities is the statutory consultee for major NI listed buildings. The Listed Places of Worship VAT Grant Scheme (DCMS, UK-wide) applies to NI listed places of worship — 20% VAT reimbursement.

We do not currently deliver in the Republic of Ireland. Republic-of-Ireland church solar is served by separate Irish installers with knowledge of An Bord Pleanála planning law and SEAI funding routes. We can refer enquiries to appropriate Republic-of-Ireland specialists.
